Farnham Street, Flemington

Modern Build Meets Heritage Charm. This project involved the careful extension and renovation of an original single-fronted heritage home, transforming it into a high-end, two-storey residence while retaining its historic character at the street front.

Externally, the original facade was fully restored, including detailed timber work, fresh weatherboard cladding, and reinstatement of period features such as the front entry, decorative architraves, and stained-glass elements. A brand new black standing seam metal-clad second storey was constructed to the rear, providing a bold, contemporary contrast while ensuring the original streetscape character remained intact. This modern addition includes expansive double-glazed windows for maximum natural light and energy efficiency.

Internally, the renovation showcases precision workmanship throughout. The original hallway has been restored with heritage-style archways, ornate ceiling roses, and custom cornices, flowing seamlessly into the new extension. Engineered timber flooring in a herringbone pattern adds warmth and texture across both old and new areas, tying the spaces together. The new staircase was custom-built, finished with solid dark-stained timber treads and sleek black balusters, set against a soaring double-height void framed by commercial-grade glazing.

Bathrooms were finished with full-height large-format tiling, frameless glass screens, and premium fixtures, including brushed brass tapware and free-standing feature baths. Attention to detail extends to custom-built vanities and concealed niches for a clean, minimalist finish.

Behind the facade, the home transitions into a contemporary light-filled open-plan design, with all construction carried out to modern energy standards, incorporating full insulation, double glazing, and high-spec internal finishes. This project is a showcase of heritage-sensitive building practice combined with high-end, contemporary craftsmanship — delivering a striking result that respects the past while embracing modern living.
